At Amwell Street Dental Practice, our dental hygienist provides professional teeth cleaning and gum health appointments for just £62.
Regular hygienist visits are one of the most important things you can do for your long-term oral health. They remove built-up plaque and tartar that daily brushing can’t reach, help prevent gum disease, and leave your mouth feeling genuinely clean.
What Happens at a Hygienist Appointment?
Your appointment with our hygienist Felicia (Dal) is thorough and personalised. Here’s what to expect:
A full assessment of your gum health and any areas of concern
Professional scale and polish — removing plaque and tartar above and below the gumline
Stain removal for a noticeably cleaner, brighter appearance
Personalised oral hygiene advice — brushing technique, interdental cleaning, products & advice on diet and its impact on your teeth
Gum Disease Management - Assistance with detection, monitoring and treatment of gum disease which can lead to tooth loss
Appointments are relaxed and unhurried. If you’re nervous or haven’t seen a hygienist in a while, please let us know and we’ll make sure you’re comfortable throughout.
Why Regular Hygienist Visits Matter?
Even with great home care, plaque builds up in areas that are difficult to clean properly. Over time this hardens into tartar, which can only be removed professionally. Left untreated, this leads to gum disease — the most common cause of tooth loss in adults.
We generally recommend a hygienist visit every 6 months, though if you have a history of gum disease or heavy tartar build-up, more frequent visits (every 3–4 months) may be advised.
Add Airflow Polishing — Advanced Stain Removal for £18 to an appointment
Airflow polishing is a powerful, gentle stain removal system that uses a controlled jet of water, air and fine powder to remove stubborn staining from coffee, tea, red wine and smoking. It’s a popular upgrade to a standard hygiene appointment and leaves teeth feeling and looking noticeably cleaner.
Ask our reception team about adding Airflow to your next hygienist appointment.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to be a registered patient?
Currently yes but we are looking to change this in future to accept direct access hygienist appointments
Does a scale and polish hurt?
For most patients it is completely comfortable. If your gums are inflamed or you have sensitive teeth, there may be some mild discomfort, but our hygienist will always work at your pace and can apply numbing gel if needed. She can also give local anaesthetic if required.
How often should I see a hygienist?
Every 6 months is the standard recommendation. If you have gum disease or significant build-up, your hygienist may recommend more frequent visits.
Can the hygienist whiten my teeth?
The scale and polish will remove surface staining and leave your teeth looking brighter and cleaner.
For deeper whitening, we also offer professional teeth whitening for £297 — ask us about combining both treatments.
